Fort Stewart's Purpose
About Fort Stewart
Fort stewart, Georgia (GA) is the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River. It covers 279,270 acres, which includes parts of Liberty, Long, Bryan, evans, and Tattnall Counties.
The reservation is about 39 miles across from east to west, and 19 miles from north to south. Fort Stewart has it all: size, terrain, climate, and location. It's close to the East Coast, and two deep-water ports: Savannah and Charleston, South Carolina. Tank, field artillery, helicopter gunnery and small arms ranges operate simultaneously throughout the year with little time lost to bad weather.
3rd Infantry Division: Rock of the Marne
Whether you are in uniform or a family member you will have a satisfying and fulfilling tour here with the Marne Division.
The mission is challenging, we are not called the "Marne Express" for nothing, but you will find that the rewards are great - we are based in a beautiful part of the country, and our neighbors in Hinesville, Liberty County, and the Coastal Empire are better than anyone you could ask for.
We enjoy a great relationship with the city of Hinesville, which is our closest neighbor, and Savannah is only a 40-minute ride from post.
In this area of Coastal Georgia you will find that historical, cultural, and recreational opportunities abound, and Atlanta and Jacksonville, Fla. are within a couple hours drive. It will be well worth your time to take in what the local community has to offer during your tour here.
Mission of the 3d Infantry division, "Rock of the Marne!"
The mission of the 3ID is to deploy rapidly to a contingency area by air, land, and sea to conduct mobile, combined arms offensive and defensive operations worldwide.
